3D CORAL REEFS

Recreating virtual reefs in 3D for better coral research and protection

Our team comprises of diving professionals, accomplished underwater photographers and videographers, experienced movie producers, and skilled 3D artists who have joined forces to create an immersive virtual experience of the stunning coral reefs along the Vietnamese coastline. Utilizing photogrammetry technology, we are aiming to produce highly detailed 3D underwater environments that can be used for a variety of purposes, including regular monitoring of coral reefs, collection of data on marine life, and informing conservation and management decisions. Our 3D models also provide accurate topographical representations of diveable terrains, allowing for a more comprehensive understanding of the underwater landscape.

Project status

Objective: Demonstrate that any certified diver can, with limited equipment, contribute to mapping underwater terrains.

UW structures have been successfully scanned using nothing more than consumer-grade Olympus TG-4 camera on single-tank fun dives. We aim to expand to more types of recording equipment including GoPro cameras, 360º action cams etc... You can participate directly or lend us yours.

Objective: establish a standard repeatable and not location-specific diving protocol and scanning method, including minimum equipment and skills.
